Automatic Latex Plugin for Vim (project statement) from Marcin Szamotulski on Vimeo.
Check out my video:
I am a PhD student of Mathematics and the only developer of this project. Many mathematicians
and other scholar scientists
are using LaTeX
) to write their scientific papers, seminar presentations and conference posters. LaTeX
is markup language (like html
), though more advanced. Writing in plain LaTeX
is usually quite demanding. This project aim is to build and develop a plugin for Vim editor
(which is a famous programmable
editor used by programmers and scholars: http://www.vim.org
). This includes shortcuts, compilation procedures and other convenient scripts to make writing LaTeX
files more easy and straightforward. Vim
is one of the most advanced editors picked up by many professionals since it provides fast way of editing plain text files (like LaTeX
or programming source code).
We want to maintain and develop a tool for scientific community for easier writing scientific papers using LaTeX
typesetting system within Vim editor
. The Vim editor is distributed under Vim charity licence (which is compatible with GNU GPL Free Software Foundation Licence
) and its is freely available from http://www.vim.org
. The plugin licence is GPL
and it is and will be freely available (from http://atp-vim.sourceforge.net/
). At the time the Plugin works under Linux
and one of the goals is to make it work under MS Windows
as well. As to give you the size of the project: the plugin has now around 22 000 words
(this is as much as my ~100page PhD thesis
and as much as my friends novel
What We Need & What You Get
I need money for hardware, a laptop with MS Windows, and a better internet conection. I really need it since my current laptop is already dying, the laptop's battery is not working at all so I cannot work when I move around (which I do a lot since I have 40min train ride from my home to my work) and I have no access to MS Window system. The maintenance of the project takes time (since its size is as big as my PhD!). I ask for 1100 USD which is not that much if you consider that the project is already developed for over 2 years almost without any funding.
The plugin has the highest average score (so called karma points) at http://www.vim.org
and is one of the most downloaded LaTeX
plugins for Vim
with a constantly growing community of users.
