Demonstation & Lecture Tool
Sky’s The Limit provides demonstrations and lectures on various astronomy subjects. We think that the ME Machine (Moon-Earth model) will be a great tool for teaching one of the most basic parts of what we see in the sky--the motions of our very close neighbor--the Moon.
Project Goal
We have built a basic plywood prototype of the ME Machine to demonstrate how it will work. We want to fabricate a nicer looking model with much better functionality. If funding is procured we want to make two models, one to remain at the Sky’s The Limit Astronomy & Nature Center, and one to be used for demonstrations at various presentations as well as being made available for loan to schools and other groups.
Amount Needed
The amount needed to construct the ME Machines is $5,000. This will enable us to achieve our design goals, order any necessary materials, plus fabricator’s labor costs. This model will help anyone to have a clear understanding of some of the most basic elements of orbital mechanics.
Rewards for You
In return for your support for our FundaGeek project, we're offering some exciting rewards such as your name framed and posted at the STL site with recognition as a backer of the ME Machine. We also offer iron-on patches, STL t-shirts and hats.
The Designer
My name is Ken Drummond and I’m an amateur astronomy enthusiast who has been active with STL for the last two years. My primary activity has been designing and constructing the STL Orrery (model of the Solar System). I also give astronomy presentations, at the STL site and for various interested groups. I use physical models and human volunteers to help illustrate basic concepts to do with the planets and stars.
