A reduction of full-spectrum daylight quality light exposure — that human DNA is programmed to assimilate — contributes to many health & productivity issues... some quite serious.
Science Of Light (SOL) is a 501C3 non-profit corporation (pending) focused on research, development and implementing the use of light for therapy and for enhancing wellness, productivity and energy efficiency in the indoor environment. Our work is dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. John Ott, a time-lapse photography pioneer and the father of "full-spectrum light" technology.
SOL's Vision is to advance Dr. Ott's full-spectrum fluorescent light technology to the green technology of light emitting diodes (LED). SOL is committed to being a voice for the silent epidemic of "Mal-illumination" — a condition that Dr. Ott likened to malnutrition. Mal-illumination is brought about by limiting our daily intake of (full-spectrum) daylight and by shielding ourselves from the sun with such things as tinted windows, windshields, sunglasses and suntan lotions.
The cornerstone of our mission was set in 1988 with the formation of Ott Light Systems, Inc. Now reborn as a non-profit LLC, our Mission remains the eradication of Mal-illumination with a renewed focus on children's health and disease prevention.
Ken Ceder, Research Director was a co-director of Hippocrates Health Institute in Boston Massachusetts. After meeting Dr. Ott, Ken founded Ott Light Systems, Inc. (OLS). Ken served as CEO & President of OLS and has maintained his passion for light & health for almost twenty five years... thanks to Dr. Ott. Robert Mathis, M.D., Medical Director is Board Certified in Holistic Medicine, is a member of the American Board of Holistic Medicine, and is an expert in the area of Heart Rate Variability, a non-invasive, non-destructive, predictive test of the overall balance of the autonomic nervous system. In addition to his credentials as a medical doctor, Dr. Mathis also holds a BS in Human Physiology with a minor in engineering. Stephen Chapman is a resource development professional with more than twenty years of public service. Stef has very successfully managed both city and federal programs which have earned the respect and appreciation from both co-workers and those served.
Dr. Ott was the driving force behind the "Vita-Lite" — the patented, full-spectrum fluorescent light tube with added ultra violet light (UV). However, inherent radiation hazards captured on film by Dr. Ott's time-lapse photography sequences inspired him to invent a full-spectrum, 'radiation-shielded light fixture' in order to contain low level x-ray radiation and radio frequency emissions that were being emitted from all fluorescent lights.
Unfortunately, a very costly light 'fixture' versus a much less expensive light 'tube' was not practical for most people. Understandably it went out of production — however, the radiation problems identified by Dr. Ott still remain today!
Much of the ground work and heavy lifting is done. We will nurture this seed until it sprouts 'biologically beneficial light' to enlighten tomorrows leaders. Seed funding of $112,000 ($12,000 covers projected funding fees) is needed to complete development & commence beta, legal council and general operating expense. Currently there is no income or outside $upport and no salaries for management until the 2nd capital infusion.
